Love the Skin You’re In
A year ago my head started itching. Incessantly. After trying 74 different shampoos, I finally made an appointment at the dermatologist. Who I hadn’t seen since before my wedding. 8 years ago.😬
She started my full body check and took one look at my scalp and said, “You have psoriasis.” Which is an autoimmune disease brought on by stress and fatigue. (Stress & fatigue?? How is every mother on the planet not afflicted by this???) She ended up biopsing two moles as well.
Trying not to spiral (which is tough when you’re a mom of three and also slightly hungover from #momsnightout the night before 🍷), I immediately made my husband an appointment as well because he is even fairer than me. He went in the following week & also got something biopsied. My results came back fine. His did not. Enter melanoma, MD Anderson, and a monster scar on his left shoulder to remember it by. They were able to cut it all out and he is fine, thanks be to our merciful God‼️🙏🏻
The obvious moral of this story is to get your skin checked. Which is what I did again this morning. 👊🏻 The other more important piece is to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit! Because if you repeatedly ignore them, they will fail to come. Something in me for months told me to go to the dermatologist and I just didn’t take action. What would have happened if I hadn’t??
Pay attention to the things that are tugging at your heart. The things that you can’t shake out of your mind. That is God at work! And sometimes He does this work through posts, through people, (even through psoriasis!) to get you to do what you need to do. Listen to that inner voice. He placed it there. And then call your derm! ❤️
